Title: ADVANCING GREEN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: EMERGING THEMES
AND SCOPES FOR FUTURE INQUIRY – A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW |
Authors: Dr. Jonathan Omolo, Kenya |
Abstract: This systematic review comprehensively analyzes current Green Human Resource Management
(GHRM) research to identify emerging themes, key findings, and underexplored areas. Despite
GHRM's growing importance for organizational sustainability, the field is fragmented by varied
definitions and inconsistent findings. This review consolidates existing knowledge, highlights
gaps, and offers a research roadmap. The review shows GHRM positively impacts environmental
performance, sustainable outcomes, and employee green behaviors. Emerging themes include
leadership, organizational culture, technology, and cross-cultural contexts. While traditional
GHRM practices are well-studied, their strategic alignment with environmental goals is gaining
attention. Findings suggest a need for more nuanced theoretical frameworks and robust empirical
methods to understand GHRM's impact on sustainability. Future research should develop multilevel theoretical models integrating individual, organizational, and societal factors. Longitudinal
and mixed-methods studies are needed to capture GHRM's dynamic link to long-term
sustainability. Inquiry should also extend to diverse organizational contexts, especially developing
economies, to explore implementation challenges. Finally, investigating digital technologies' role
in fostering green behaviors and leveraging GHRM for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
presents a significant research avenue. |
